Usually a simple, sporadic UTI can be treated with a course of antibiotics, but If left untreated can lead to a more serious kidney infection (pyelonephritis), or even sepsis. If a patient experiences three or more UTI’s a year, or a sudden onset of recurrent infection, an evaluation is warranted.
